The Right Career, Right from the Start

Hillary Allee is passionate about being a registered nurse (R.N.) at Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics. She’s assigned to the pulmonology, endocrinology and gastrointestinal floor. Nursing patients back to health is her biggest responsibility, and she does “tons of teaching with new diabetic patients and their families.” Hillary says this requires communicating, teaching and reassuring both patients and family members, and she loves this part of her job.

Hillary studied nursing at Central Missouri State University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree. She received some local nursing scholarships and several scholarships from CMSU to help cover part of her educational expenses.

In 2006, Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics honored Hillary as their “Rookie of the Year.” She enjoys her work at Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics and finds the colorful, playful and upbeat atmosphere to be a wonderful environment for not only healing patients but for inspiring health care providers.

Hillary has set her goals high for the future. A short-term goal is to learn Spanish for health care providers. Eventually, she would like to gain experience on the cardiac floor and neonatal intensive care. She’s also contemplated the idea of travel nursing. Her long-term goal involves obtaining her master’s degree and working as a pediatric nurse practitioner. Hillary believes nursing is “the absolute essence of my being.”
